Why We’ve Added a Temporary $2 Fuel Surcharge

You may notice a $2 fuel surcharge added to our Standard & Express Shipping.

We want to explain why this has been introduced, and how long it will be in place.

What’s changed?

Our delivery partners, Australia Post and Aramex, apply a fuel surcharge that moves with fuel prices. Right now that's sitting at 6.9% with Australia Post and 7.9% with Aramex, with Australia Post's rate set to rise to 11.5% from October. You can read more from them here:

This surcharge applies to all businesses using their service during this period.

Like most Australian e-commerce businesses, we rely on Australia Post & Aramex to deliver your orders. When their costs increase, that increase flows through to us and at the volumes we ship and the size of business we are, absorbing these surcharges across all orders isn't something we're able to do.

Why we’ve added $2

We have absorbed increases in shipping costs in the past. However, this temporary surcharge has created a meaningful increase in delivery costs across all orders.

To help cover part of this, we have introduced a flat $2 increase to our Standard and Express Post Rates.

We have chosen a flat $2 to keep things simple and consistent, rather than adjusting shipping costs based on location or order size. We are still absorbing a portion of the increase ourselves.

Rather than quietly bake it into product prices or hide it in handling fees, we've chosen to be transparent. The $2 increase has been added to all Standard and Express Shipping charges and mentioned in the cart.

How long will this be in place?

This is a temporary measure.

As soon as Australia Post & Aramex remove their fuel surcharge, we will remove ours.

We are monitoring this closely and will revert back as soon as possible.

What about the Free Shipping Threshold?

As per usual, orders over $199 will be eligible for Free Shipping (as long as they don't contain glassware). We charge a shipping fee for Glassware on all orders due to it's weight and size.
