There’s something special about gathering with loved ones around a homemade pizza, and it all starts with the dough! Crafting your own pizza is more than a meal—it’s a fun experience, where everyone can create their own unique pizza
THE DOUGH
Ingredients
- 153 grams (1 cup + 1 tablespoon) all-purpose flour
- 8 grams (1 teaspoon) fine sea salt
- 2 grams (¼ teaspoon) active dry yeast
- 4 grams (1 teaspoon) extra-virgin olive oil
Method
-
In a large bowl (or thermomix), mix the flour and salt together.
-
In a separate bowl, pour 200 grams (a little less than 1 cup) of lukewarm water and add the yeast and let it sit for a minute or two to dissolve.
-
Pour the yeast mixture into the flour and salt mixture, and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Add the olive oil and continue mixing until everything is combined.
-
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 3-4 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook if you prefer.
-
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise at room temperature for about 3-4 hours. This will allow the dough to develop flavour and texture.
-
Once the dough has risen, divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball, and let them rest for another 30 minutes to an hour.
TIME TO MAKE THE PIZZA!
-
Crank your oven up to its highest temperature. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats for an extra crispy crust, or pizza oven.
-
Gently stretch each dough ball into a pizza shape on a floured surface. Aim for a thin center with a slightly thicker edge for the crust.
-
Let everyone choose their toppings! Start with a thin layer of tomato sauce, then add your favourite cheese, vegetables, and herbs. Some popular choices include mozzarella, mushrooms, bell peppers, fresh basil, or even a sprinkle of chilli flakes for a bit of heat. (it was a topic of debate on when to layer the cheese between the team)
-
Slide your pizza onto the preheated pizza oven. Bake for 7-10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
-
Let each pizza cool slightly, then slice and enjoy the delicious creations you’ve made together - best served on our Pizza Serving Tray!
