The Breakdown

We're so excited to bring you a limited edition collaboration with one of our favourite Byron Bay tea brands, Mayde Tea.

Featuring two unique blends; Wategos & Hinterland, these teas have been designed to support your mind, body & beyond throughout the festive season.

Did you know that some tea bags can contain microplastics? This means tiny pieces of plastic particles might end up in your cup after brewing your favourite tea! That’s why we love this loose leaf tea blend, and why we wanted to collaborate with local Byron Bay brand, Mayde Tea.

Made using certified organic ingredients, handmade and free from artificial colours and flavours we’re so excited to bring you this delicious blend that is perfect for you or a gift this holiday season.

Designed to be enjoyed anytime of the day, this blend is packed full of Australian natives including Native Blood Lime and River Mint. The combination of flavours adds a beautiful depth of flavour - while helping to support digestion, is alkalising and has a cooling effect on the body.

This liveliness of the mint is balanced with the gentle and calming lemon balm for a soothing, palate cleansing tea.

This beautiful blend is housed in glass jars and features labels made right here in Australia using compostable materials. We encourage you to reuse the vessel to refill your tea over and over again! We also opted to use cork liners under the lids in this collaboration, making them plastic-free.

We have our very own Seed & Sprout Tea Strainer coming soon! Stay tuned!

About the Collaboration
We made the switch to loose leaf tea years ago after discovering that many tea bags contain plastic! Yep, many tea bags contain microplastics that leak in to your cup when brewing, meaning you end up digesting them. No thanks! One of our favourite loose leaf tea brands is local Byron Bay brand, Mayde Tea. Founded by naturopath Kate Dalton, Mayde Tea has a range of delicious loose leaf teas that taste good, look good & make you feel good. We stocked up our kitchen at HQ with a number of their delicious blends (Australian Native is one of our favourites) so collaborating with them was a no brainer for us! We're so excited to bring you this limited edition collaboration featuring two unique blends that have been custom made by Kate just for us! The Wategos & Hinterland blends have been designed to support your mind, body & beyond throughout the holiday season.

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

What's In The Byron Hinterland Blend?

The Ingredients & Their Benefits

Peppermint: Peppermint has excellent antispasmodic actions, calming and soothing the entire length of the digestive tract. Peppermint has been found to relieve intestinal colic and flatulence by its relaxing effect on smooth muscle. Due to its antimicrobial activity, peppermint may also help fight off infections such as the common cold and influenza. The volatile oil in peppermint acts as a mild anaesthetic to the stomach wall which may help with feelings of nausea during travel.

Rivermint: River Mint is an Australian native, and is mostly used for it’s carminative effects meaning it calms and soothes the length of the digestive tract to reduce flatulence.

Lemon Balm: Lemon Balm tones and relaxes the nervous system. It also helps to reduce digestive cramping and spasms. Lemon balm is specifically useful in people with digestive upset that is worsened by stress and anxiety.

Calendula: Calendula, also known as Marigold, has many medicinal actions. When taken internally, calendula is anti-inflammatory, and especially has its effects on the length of the digestive system. Calendula is an extremely safe herb and has had remarkable effects even on children. Calendula has been found to exert very beneficial effects on healing the gastric mucosa.

Native blood lime: An Australian native, high in antioxidants and with a uniquely fresh flavour. It is high in vitamin C and anthocyanins meaning it may reduce inflammation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the ingredients sourced from & are they organic?
Mayde Tea always sources their ingredients from where they thrive best, being where they originated from. River Mint and Native Blood Lime are both Australian natives, and were grown and sourced locally. The others came from all around the world. All are organic and wildcrafted where possible.
Give us the TEA, what is the problem with my daily cup?
Did you know that many tea bags contain plastics? Canadian researchers published a study in the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Environmental Science and Technology which found that steeping a single plastic tea bag at brewing temperature releases about 11.6 billion minuscule particles known as “microplastics” and 3.1 billion “nanoplastics” into each cup.
Why are tea bags not compostable?
A number of tea bag brands use polypropylene, a sealing plastic, to keep their tea bags from falling apart. This plastic is not recyclable or biodegradable. So, even when you put all your used tea bags in the food waste or compost heap, it can lead to plastic pollution, as not all of it will be broken down.
Where is the packaging made? Tell me more about Cork, why did you use Cork?
Cork is a very clever material: natural, renewable and recyclable, it decomposes naturally and is 100% environmentally friendly. Recognised for its unique aesthetic, it's one of the best alternatives to leather and plastics. It assists in providing flexibility and creating a freshness seal, just like PE liner does but without the long term environmental impacts, so it’s a win-win for us!
What do I do with the packaging once I’m done?
The idea is that this beautiful tea vessel is used and re-filled over and over again. The cardboard packaging can be composted or recycled in your recycling bin. At the end of life the glass bottle and aluminium lid can be recycled. The cork liner can be added to your home compost or organic waste bin.
